The Islanders bought out the remaining two years of Bryan Trottier's
contract, releasing him as a free agent w.o./compensation.  The NY
Times quoted his agent, a guy named Thornton, that Trots wants to
continue his career and also wants to stay in this area so he will
talk to the Rangers (gasp!) and to the Devils.

Just a further note for those who think he might be coming to your team is
that while it would only cost $100 to grab him over the waiver list, that also
requires the team to pick up the remaining 2 years of his contract, which is
$1.9 million ($950,000 per year).  I'm not sure if that can be renegotiated
(for his part I hope so, as I doubt few teams would want to pay ~$1mill/year
for him).
