Yes:

1. The SuperLeague has yet to get off the ground, if it ever does;
2. Don Lane hosts the NFL telecasts in Australia basically because he is
a cheaply-available token Yank who knows a little bit about the game and is
moderately well known in Australia.  Who would they get in the States to
host a similar RL program?  Gordon Elliott??
3. The American sporting public just don't care about any sporting event
outside of their own national boundaries, unless it is an Olympic sport
that they can win gold medals at.
4. How are they going to disguise the 4,000-5,000 crowds that they are
going to get at Cronulla, Penrith, Western Reds, Hunter Mariners home games?

I'd be careful making sweeping generalisations
about the American sporting public. For every
stereo-typical Yank, there's plenty that are
completely the opposite. I'd be prepared to put
money on the fact that SL highlights on FOX would
attract the sort of cult following Caleb mentioned.
A similar phenomenon already exists with AFL, which
is only available on cable.  --RL is a lot closer to
American football than AFL.

Another thing to remember:- If 1% of people in the US watched
one game on any one night that's around 2.5 million people!
I bet Channel Nine would love this sort of number!

Either way, I know for a fact that FOX will have at least
one viewer!

I believe that SuperLeague will infact be a success on FOX in the
United States.
I would like to bring to mind the recent success of
Australian tenpin bowling on the FOX network during primetime in the
States, which featured the talented Ucky Brothers.
So goodluck to Murdoch and his SuperLeague.

Here's another cane toad that will be tuned in to FOX.
It will be interesting to see how FOX differentiates the RL product from
Rugby union which is the more well known at present.

G'day Ged

There's a bloke in rec.sport.rugby.union who wants to know if the USA vs
Ireland game in Atlanta on 6 January 1996 is League or Union. I assume
you can help here.
