That's what I heard on one radio station, but on another the number is
supposed to reduce to 14 after one more year - same as the report by
Pritchard in the Australian. Pity, because I'm sure we can have an
excellent competition with 16. Still, let's hope it's as good as it seems
and that News gets behind the game, and we'll see League take off again.

I suspect that this a day that many other sports have been fearing
for a long time. The party's over folks. Watch out, here comes RL to
reclaim its crown...

ABOUT TIME!!!! YES!!! :)

This is the best thign that could have happened, becuase I can bet you
there is still going to be some friction between the ARL/SL teams (well,
at least their respective supporteres!)... and I think the crowds will
return... great!

We need the News Corp money and its world-wide coverage.  What we don't need is
the hype and artificially engineered scorelines where attack rules and defence
is a lost art.

If only the media bosses and the RL fans could meet and discuss, instead of the
media and the RL bosses.

Whatever happens, it'll never be the same again. The whole setup will feel
different. Whether it is superior or not, it won't be the same.

I just hope they don't head in the way of the NFL.

And become a major and very profitable sporting attraction with an effective
administration?
Or do you mean, become largely restricted to one nation, without any
international competition?

No sense of something good...

Partly. I mean sure, it'd be great to have success like that in the NFL,
but to me, the whole NFL looks really fabricated. Like a sport constructed
solely for pay-tv rights and to make money. It's really commercial.

I like the idea of the English Premier League, which, while still being
fairly commercial, has traditional teams with traditional names and playing
strips but with great competition and a very viable support. That would be
much better. Better than a fabricated league.
