That result will need correction. Leeds negotiated a changed scoring
system after the match finished so they won by 4 points.

>Ah!

>But was that under 2007 regulations.....or 2006????????????

I've done some research on this. Apparently a special scoring system was
trialled in 1898 to counter the perceived unfairness in the, then very
unusual, midweek evening matches where the away team had to do a shift
down the pit during the day and then travel on a coal truck over the
Pennines to arrive just in time for kick-off. Because of the shift
system used in Yorkshire pits, Thursday evening matches put Yorky teams
playing at Lancashire grounds at a particular disadvantage. Consequently
a very complex "Away Goals (Multiplication)" regulation was introduced
which had the effect that goals scored by Yorkshire away teams playing
on Thursday evenings in Lancs were upgraded by a factor of eleven.

Leeds Rugby have had their legal experts working on this and they've
found out that due to incompetence in the Northern Union and later in
the RFL, that regulation has never been rescinded. Hence the correct
result on Thursday was Wigan 18 Leeds 22, a 4 point winning margin for
Leeds and coincidentally 5 points on the tipping comp for me.

Cheers,

Ah, but Arthur, you`ve forgotten the famous Triskaidekaphobia
Exception!

Fearful and superstitious folk like what Yorksheermen is, steadfastly
refused to do `owt on a Friday 13th, preferring instead to stay indoors,
in bed all day.  Tradition also had it that an early night was called for
on the Thursday Eve, and any team breaking this tradtion would
suffer the indignity of defeat to  a Lancashire team, conceding,
in the process, a total of 13 points plus the number of letters in
that teams name.....in the case of Wigan, 13 + 5 = 18

I have already booked my ticket for the next Thursday game
against Saint Helens

Nice try though....BUT  NO  CIGAR !

:-)
