Spoilt: Saints v Cronulla

Cronulla 28, Saints 12

A 600% improvement, espescially in defence from Saints, buit still not
quite enough. The first two Cronulla tries were the result of poor
defence: an attemted tackle that Andy Haigh will hve nightmares about, and
the failure of enyone to drop back for a kick on 5th tackle with the full
back out of position. Otherwise, Saints gave Cronulla a very hard game,
matching them physically, giving the ball lots of air, and forcing plenty
of mistakes. Cunningham was excellent, the markers were far tighter and
Joynt also had a very good game. We saw a Saints side that could probably
live with the Aussie competition, and made their domestic form look all
the more like underperformance.

It looks like a lot of the tension is being cleared from Knowsley Road. I
hope the improvememt continues

Don't get carried away, according to the press release Cronulla were
lacking a few first teamers due to injuries.

Wigan RLFC - Simply the best -
but trying hard to become the worst :-(

I think there were 4 guys out from the Knowsley Road game including
Rogers and Peachey.

Saints played well though I thought.....Cunningham had his first
blinder since the CC semi against us...

Silly errors cost em....Haigh is mighty weak on those high balls...

A similar situation to that at Knowsley Road a few weeks ago?

Personally I thought they had as many chances to win the game as Cronulla -
more in the second half.

However I cannot fault the team because they gave their all.

If they play the same way against Auckland/Penrith and they can find
that extra 5%, cutting out the silly errors - there is no reason why they
can't win.

I can only think of two major reasons for them not winning against
Auckland...
1: Backing up from Monday night to Friday night, which is a killer as
Auckland have experienced on at least one occasion.
2: Auckland finally playing to their potential.

and 3: Auckland will now host the Final of the WCC. What an achievement
if the Warriors take it out and still get the spoon in the Telstra cup
;-(

Technically that's three there geezer!

I don't think Saints will win, much as I'd love them to. Basically Haigh
is not a full back, and the whole team makes too many  errors. I think
that at least three of Cronulla's tries were gifted by Saints. If you
remove 12-18 points from Cronulla's score that's at best Saints 12-10 and
at worst Cronulla 16-10. The players out wouldn't have made that much
difference because, in general Saints were making their first up tackles.

Maybe Saints best hope is either with Haigh at Centre and Hunte or Arnold
at FB, or Arnold at FB and Hayes on the wing.
