Murdoch's bought Prime Sports Network, a country-wide cable channel. It
will be shown on that. I've not heard that it'll be shown on Fox though.

Now it's the ARL (Australian Rugby League) and the Optus Cup.  New
laws in this country -prevent tobacco companies sponsoring sport, so
Optus, a telecomunications company with pay tv interests has now
sponsored the comp.

  Auckland, North Qld, South Qld.

They have now joined to make it a 20 team comp

The team I chose to support was still

They are kicking ***this season, currently top of the ladder

The SL/ARL tiff is over players being lured away to the

Yes

There has been a never ending court batle to ban

Quote:
>this right?

Yes, an appeal to the full bench of the Federal Court to overturn the
decision of Burchett J  is scheduled for May 24

As a result the ARL season has gone ahead right?

Yes, the full bench reinstated Burchett J's order, which they earlier
stayed,  that the SL players could not be payed by SL if they didn't
play in the ARL competition.  As  soon as the money was cut off, the
SL players returned on mass

What has happend to the SL?  What teams are in the SL?  What's the
story with the SL players?

SL is happening in Europe, and may yet happen here.  The full bench of
the Federal Court, and possibly the High Court of Australia will
ultimately decide the fate of Superleague in the short term.  As the
original orders stand, SL is banned from running a competition in
Australia until the year 2000.  If Burchett J's orders remain in force
after the appeal(s) then it remains to be seen whether News Corp have
the resolve to wait until 2000 to get their comp started.  My gut feel
is that they will walk away from it and count their losses

The teams in the SL are:  Brisbane Broncos, Cronulla Sharks, Canberra
Raiders, Penrith Panthers, North Queensland Cowboys, Western Reds,
Auckland Warriors, Canterbury Bulldogs and two new teams the Adelaide
rams and the Hunter Mariners which is based in Newcastle north of
Sydney.  This makes a 10 team comp

Sorry for all the questions, but with all the bickering over

>the SL/ARL it's hard to get a clear picture of what's happening!

No worries :-)

Cheers
