I think the problem with Manly is that they're just too good at it!  Bad
cheats are just jokes while good cheats are normally unpopular
champions.  Brisbane, much like Manly, attempt to gain unfair advantage
by effective lobbying.

Neither club is particularly popular: they tend to have intensely
parochial fans and those who hate them but very few fans fall in the
middle ground.
(NZ seems to be an exception as far as Manly is concerned - so many
people still seem to have a soft spot for them)

This would probably explain why people hate them. Right or wrong, Manly are
seen as a club that no only cheats, but are allowed by the establishment to
get by with it. There is probably no such thing as good cheats or bad
cheats - just those who get by with it, and those that don't. Good cheats,
if there is such a thing, would be those that don't get discovered at all.

I'm still trying to work out the reason for that. I think it is probably
something to do with the fact that when Aussie League was first televised
in NZ, Manly were the team with the most kiwis (but don't ask me to name
them). For some reason, even when the kiwis left, NZ Manly fans didn't. Go
figure.

Yeah, sure. And Alex Fergusson was only trying to give the Tottenham
defence some helpful tips because he was feeling altruistic. I don't
mind the propaganda side of football, but I do try not to fall for it.
