O'Neill's back !

Post by Ryan O'Neil » Tue, 09 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Well, after reading the anti-Cougar news I thought i'd just pipe in and have a good old
whinge !!

Shame about the loss of the 1st Divison trophy out of our grasps yesterday, but I think
we really lost the grip when we drew at Whitehaven.

But when we look at this season it can be thought of as one of the most exciting in
recent years.  The three teams at the top are justified in being there, and I only wish
that all three could be promoted to the Super League;  with some of the most impressive
football that I have seen from the likes of Widnes, Salford and of course Keighley I
think that we could teach the Workingtons, Oldhams and Warrington's of this world how to
play a more entertaining game.

But let's refer to Keighley.. it really does take an ignoramous to condemn us.  The
following teams are set to receive  700 k from Murdoch: Salford; Widnes; Fev; Hull (!)
and Wakefield.  Keighley are set to receive 500 k..... UNFAIR ???? I think so.  Perhaps
if we had received this other 200 k we could have bought a quality (if not 2) players
which would have supplememnted our squad and prevented us from suffering in such a costly
manner from our numerous injuries.  So in these terms we have done exceptionally well
this season.... look at our challengers last season: Batley; Huddersfield; Whitehaven;
Rochdale and Dewsbury... we are now head and shoulders above them in the league table, so
we really are a good team with a very bright future.

But next season is the real tester.  Summer football will add a whole new perspective
onto the game.  May the best team win !

Congratulations Salford...... bad luck to us Cougars.. and better luck next time Widnes
(as long as it isn't at our expense !).

Oh.... and yes I really am so biased you wouldn't believe it !

Excuse the long quote but this needs doing.

Do they put something in your water over there that makes you paranoid?
It's hardly anti Cougar news. More gentle poking fun - that right Gary?
:)

We get the extra cash cos we were in the ***y top flight before being
knocked down a division to fit in with plans, not because the RL are
robbing you. And incidently how much of that 700k has gone on players
compared with ground improvements, certainly at The Willows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't you lot been banned from signing
until you get your financial house in order. And besides I don't think
Critchley and Powell are paid for yet either. I doubt there;d have been
much of that 200 gran left anyway. It's all well and good having a team
of full time profs but they have to win to make the money back and if
you're support drops off if you don't get promoted next year where does
that leave you. The way I see it there's one escape route next season,
anybody who's left behind is in the shit for ever cos an awful lot of
good players in division one are only contracted till the end of the
first season, then they'll be off.

Last seasons' Div 2 had an appalling standard apart from Keighley.

Honestly Ryan, it's not Cougar bashing. After all your side are in the
same predicament as Salford and Widnes (+ a couple of others) but we've
been treated harshly too. It ain't the world against Keighley but we've
all got on with it without whinging. Personally I think that behavior
with Batley earlier on in the season was disgraceful and damaging to the
game. trying to persuade Cougar fans to go to COUGAR PARK :), pay entry
fee  and listen to the game over the radio instead of going and giving
your money to Batley because of a personal dispute at board level was
stupid. We're all in this shit together and robbing a club of vital
income is bordering on ***. Doesn't the game matter anymore?
Guess who's in a bad mood tonight :)

Think back Paul ; wec were actually promoted to the top flight last season !  So logically thinking
we were actually relegated with you ! so we should receive the same payments !!!

For starters, NO we haven't been banned, we've banned ourselves...no outside source can tell a
limited company what to buy and whta not to buy using company cash !
for main course; Powell & Critchley are being payed for in agreed differed payments with
Sheffield & Salford respectively which is the same type of agreement as many other clubs use
when buying players... and so far the payments are up to date !

WRONG Paul ! It was an idea put forward by the supporters in the heat of the moment, and due
to the Keighley board disapproving the boycott never took place.. in fact the crowd at Batley was
above 2,000 that night !

You were actually refused promotion due to restructure, not relegated.
You were never actually promoted to be relegated in the first place. Nor
were we relegated. It's a completely different league structure. I
wouldn't begrudge you the 200k I just reckon it's a little hysterical to
suggest that cash would have won you the title.
The payments were made, to my understanding on divisional status at the
end of the last season beacause the prom/relegation structure was
frozen.
We've had to forget where we finished last season and it's about time
you lot did.

Bullshit. You got an emergency loan of 50000 from RFL to bail you out
and were told that you were in no way allowed to spend it on players
until you got your financial house in order. League Express quote "This
is bound to upset Larder as he has been linked with Richie Eyres" and
some tosser from Dewsbury.
The outside source CAN tell the limited company what to spend the cash
on if they've loaned it to you in the first place. Stands to reason.
In these parts the papers were saying that Salford were considering
legal action at one point beacuse they were owed a 15000 payment for
Critchley. Speaking of Mr. Critchley he said in the Manchester Evening
News the night before we leathered you that Salford offered him a new
contract but the one Cougars offered him was FIVE TIMES BIGGER. And you
wonder why you've got no money.

Well maybe our teletext (and all the papers for that matter) is
different here (maybe they're all anti-Cougar too eh?) but the inference
was that the suggestion had come from within the Keighley board (your
dad?) and when there was an outcry from Batley and the RL world in
general it was hastily withdrawn. I find it hard to believe that a
whispered idea on the terraces could get so much publicity. By the way
who planned to open the gates, collect the bargain 7 entry fees and
pipe Radio Keighley through your "impressive" tannoy system then?

Are newspapers banned in your house Ryan. Is Daddy giving you the full
story? :)

Paul ;)

The views expressed here are definitely my own and not the views of my
father...honest.

SORRY Paul, why don't u believe me ???????  Look I live in the same house as the Chairman 7
days a week 352 days a year... i hear his phone calls, i listen to his views and i know roughly
what is going on !  I repeat... we are not banned from signing players by the RFL, we are banning
ourselves because we simply don't have the dosh... the 50 k loan from the RFL is a bridge until
Murdochs money arrives...  Critchleys payments are up to date.... and finally don't believe
everything you read !

All I'm saying is that if a newspaper prints stuff about Salford going
to the law to get tehir money and it's not true then they are damaging
Keighley's business interests and therefore breaking the law, which as a
rule, papers tend to be careful about. They might be up to date now but
there was a time when they weren't. And if it's any consolation,
Critchley wouldn't get in our team now cos of Fata Sini.
