Can anybody help please.

Whilst discussing the Challenge Cup with a friend we unsure of a couple of
things from previous years - both involving Widnes.

The first is - Which year did Widnes last play in the final?

Secondly - What year and who were the opponents when in the semi final
Adams of Widnes tried a kick through and  it bounced off the crossbar back
into his hands for him to score a try? I feel it was the early 80's and it
was against one of the Hull teams.

If anybody can answer these points for me could you either post or e-mail.

Thanks for your help.

1993, lost to Wigan in a tight game 20-14

Think it was against Hull, but I'm not sure.

It was against Leeds. Another piece of bad luck going against Leeds.

Luck ? Mick Adams always reckons this was a pre-planned move that he used
to practise :-) Wasn't it a drop goal attempt, rather than a kick through.

Pity they didn't have a video ref back then, it might have been
disallowed :)

(Sorry Lloyd, I couldn't resist that one)

1982 against Leeds at, would you believe, Station Road. Rothmans describes it thus....'Mick Adams
skied a speculative up-and-under in a last second attack, the ball bouncing off the crossbar  for
the oncoming Kieron O'Loughlin to score under the posts'.

Widnes lost to Hull in a replay after a 14-14 draw - who remembers Stuart Wright's try that day?

Cheers
