Shaun Edwards was awarded the Order of the British Empire
in the New Year honours list.  He is the third Rugby League
player to be so honoured, the others being Mal Reilly and
Garry Schofield.  Ten others have the MBE; Eric Ashton,
Jonathon Davies, Neil Fox, Jeff Grayshon, Goeff Gunney,
Ellery Hanley, Chris Hesketh, Roger Millward, Clive Sullivan
and David Watkins.

Happy New Year

But, (non-biased head on) why Shaun Edwards. Thinks of sending of in

I don't think religon has much to do with it.  He is the joint third
most capped GB player with Hanley MBE and behind Schofield OBE and
Mick Sullivan (nowt) which most count for something.  Of all the GB
players past and present who are comparable (in my view) only Sullivan
and Boston from yesteryear and Offiah from today's lot have not been
honoured.  They may have turned one down of course.  Who else would
you give it to?  And like Malc says the racist bit is a non-starter.

: Probably because he is the most successful current player in Britain,

Probably because he is the most successful current player in Britain,
and apparently does a lot of charity work. Seeing as they go
'clubbing' together I would asssume Offiah is a good friend of his,
and he was romantically linked with the lead singer of M-People, so
the racist occurrence was just Aussie gamesmanship leading upto the
RLWC Final, IMHO.

From what I saw of the sending off incident I don't think that
it was intentional - he aint that stupid.

The racist slur was probably (flame suit on) one of the unnecessary
Oz gamesmanship ploys. Shaun said himself that his girlfriend was
coloured and he had no need to say anything.

Don't know if he is C of E tho. If he isn't perhaps QEII will take
it back :-)

He just might have received it for services to the game but I could
be wrong.

These views are totally non-biased, i do not even support Wigan !

Should be a great battle between Edwards and Goulding on saturday, I can't
wait. All this talk of Warrington/Leeds/Wigan youngsters, everybody seems
to have missed the best crop of the lot Hayes, Arnold, Northey, Haig, Booth
Cunningham, Prescott, Waring plus all the others who played on boxing day.
Does anyone know if O'Loughlin is any relation to Kevin and Keiron?
When you add to that Joynt, Matutia, Busby, Gibbs, Hammond and you know who!
then I reckon Saints are the team to challenge Wigan come superleague. If
they have a weakness it's that the're probably still short of a top class
prop.

I thought Hammond was outstanding on Sky against Warrington, good to see so
many good young stand offs being produced, Harris, Tyrer (brilliant against
Wigan) and Dean Lawford at Sheffield, not to mention Nigel Wright. Must be
the largest number of British born Stand-offs playing in the top division
for many years. Can only be good for GB, cos we've really struggled for a
world class stand-off since Tony Myler. It's the position from which Aus
have controlled Test matches over the years, Lewis, Kenny, Daley and Fittler.
All we need now is a decent fullback and couple of props, Lee Penny has been
playing well and I thought Broadbent looked excellent against Wigan (does he
always play this well?). Anybody seen any promising young props lately?

Although I'm a Wigan fan (on a temporary secondment to London Broncos, while
I'm living down south), I must admit that the games needs Saints to win on
Saturday.

I wish we played Wigan every week, because he sure isn't consistent!

Yes, usually. However, Stuart Spruce will always push him out when he's fit.
