SL Court Case Starts Thursday

Post by Greg Joos » Thu, 23 May 1996 04:00:00

Just to let everyone know that the Super League  appeal starts
Thursday 23rd.  I'll keep the group posted if anything interesting
happens.

Anyone brave enough to make some predictions ?  Will it be a
slaughter, stalemate, or win for SL ?

My personal view :
- Super League will be allowed conditionally to Start in 1997
- There will be huge damages claims.
- The comps will merge as it will be a no win situation

So there you go.  I might add that I have no additional information
than the rest of you as I read the newspapers and watch TV.  This is
simply an educated guess.

The ruling on the ARL not holding a monopoly will be reversed.
The 5-year loyalty agreements will stay.
News Ltd can start a comp next year.
Players will only be able to join once they are out of contract.
Clubs cannot release players from contract to join superleague.

Therefore, News can start a comp next year but won't be able to
