Warning about HULL KR - a disgrace to the game.

Post by Rob » Tue, 23 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Now I dont want to upset any genuine good hearted Hull KR supporters, but
you and more importantly supporters of other clubs who have to visit Hull KR
need to be aware of an element of Rovers supporters, who are bringing
disgrace to their club.

I went to the Doncaster game at KR on Sunday, and the Doncaster fans were
subject to nothing but foul language, sweets being thrown at them,
apparently some were spat at, and a stone landed fairly close to a  young
child. Reading the programme, it seems that the Batley fans were also
subject to this in the previous game, after a Bulldogs supporter had written
a complaint to the Hull KR Club.

Another warning about Rovers. Any away supporters will not be allowed in
their bar, it is club policy on the advice of the police. Even members of
the travelling supporters clubs will not have anywhere inside the ground to
enjoy a drink. You will not get told this until you are inside the ground,
so have a great tee-total day when you go.

The one thing that stopped the day being a complete disaster, was that the
Dragons competed and defended very well, and shocked the supporters of both
clubs who were expecting a fifty pointer. The Dragons are going one way, and
that is upwards.

---
Once again, I dont want to upset the genuine supporters of KR, but if you
have your clubs well being at heart, then I suggest, you campaign for a bar
to be made available to travelling supporters (even if its a different bar
to the one the home supporters go in) apparently there is another inside one
of the stands.

But more importantly, you insist on some sort of temporary policing.,
because what has happened in the Batley and Doncaster games cannot and must
not be allowed to continue.

Looks like you are already upsetting the Hull KR supporters. You don't need to
try and apologise, you have made your point.

You've upset me and I'm a Robins based in Australia, no where near Craven Park.

All I can say is 12-2 and GO THE ROBINS.

Cheers,
Matt.

Warning about HULL KR - a disgrace to the game.

This is seems to be a problem in Hull full stop. We have had problems with
the Sharks as well. I remember fights breaking out at the play offs when the
Sharks were playing Huddersfield and Wigan playing Saints. Sharks fans
decide to start fighting with Wigan fans because the sharks were getting
stuffed by the Giants.
Seems like civilisation hasn't reached the east cost yet.

Sorry to those of you who do behave, but there are more than the odd idiot
spoling the game in Hull.

Andy

Do NOT compare the Robins with the Sharks. I know many Hull KR supporters and
that is the biggest insult they'll ever receive, being compared with the Sharks
fans.

There is a bridge I am told between East and West Hull and we should leave it at
that. I'll find out in November 2000 I hope.

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm sorry Matt, but I just can't see how you can give an objective opinion
of the behaviour of supporters of both Hull clubs from a distance of 14,000
miles. It would be like me saying that Canterbury fans are the worst behaved
in Australia RL.

I have to concur - some of the worst behaviour I've seen at RL games have
been when Hull or Hull KR are involved. Again, a small minority at both
clubs giving both sets of fans a bad name.

Cheers,

Andrew.

The KR fans I know are some of the best rugby league supporters I know and I'm
just defending the Robins. Canterbury fans are the best back in Australia, they
get right behind their side.

But please don't put the Sharks on the same pedastal as the Robins. All these
messages have been forwarded to the webmaster of the Hull KR site for the Robins
fans to look at.

Cheers,
Matt.

I used to agree with you Matt, the Robins fans *used* to be nice
people to know, but it is very true that in the last couple of years
their reputation has been steadily slipping in my and a lot of other
peoples estimation.

Small minorities have that effect and I will only miss one game this
year (Hull KR away) because of the threat of abuse/***. That must
be a bad thing for the club?

Rover.

The EXACT same thing happened last season when HKR visited Belle View in
there matches against Trinity. Even though several arrests and convictions
followed it aseems that some people never learn.

Tell HKR officials - fax them or something. They need to know that some of
their so-called supporters are letting the side down still. This kind of
action MUST be stamped out - there is no place for this in any rugby ground.

No doubt they are. As can be said for many Hull FC fans too.

But why not? It is one of the biggest complaints in the British game. Go
watching Hull Sharks or Hull KR at the Boulevard or Craven Park and you'll
come back with a right ear full (on a good day).

I've been to just about every ground in pro RL and I've only ever felt the
urge to complain about spectators at 2... Widnes (the old ground) and Hull.

Having just read a posting by 'Steve' it's quite interesting that he says the
Castleford fans were making '***er' signs and chanting 'fook off,***neys' at
the Bronco's supporters yesterday.  My point being that this is just one
example, indicating  that this sort of behaviour does go on at other grounds
other than the Boulevard.  I have no objection to you being critical of the
minority of supporters at Hull who are offensive, but please be consistent in
your criticisms and accept and admit that its a problem not solely confined to
Hull.

I've had experience with both Hull's, only once I have had a bad experience
and that was at Wakefield when me and my mate went to the Wakefield v Hull
game as Doncaster supporters in our donny shirts to watch a game as our team
wasnt playing. We stood with the Hull fans expecting to have a laugh, and we
were spat at and *** jokes about the state of our team which was dying at
that time.,

We moved to where the Wakefield fans were and all the Wakey fans seemed to
be glad to see us, they made us feel welcome, we played pool and had a drink
after the game with them.

So there is a problem in Humberside, but I think from personal experience
that there is  a bigger problem at the Rovers, as the Sharks lot only
involved a few.
