SEE FOR YOURSELVES, APPEAL JUDGES TOLD
LEAGUE SUPER FEDERAL (SYDNEY)

The Australian Rugby League has referred a full bench of the
Federal Court to a bulky volume of evidence and ocuments that it
says supports Justice JAMES BURCHETT's findings of dishonesty
against News Limited over Super League.
BOB ELLICOTT, QC, has told the judges, who are hearing News
Limited's appeal against the judgment handed down earlier this
year, that he wants them to see for themselves how involved News
was in the deceit that went on, and to have the same sense of
revulsion about it that Justice BURCHETT expressed.
ELLICOTT says News didn't intend to compete with the league, but
wanted to bring it to its knees by using conduct that the trial
judge found was deliberately dishonest.
The appeal hearing, before Justices JOHN LOCKHART, JOHN VON
DOUSSA and RONALD SACKVILLE, will continue next Tuesday.
