If you have read any of the comments made by the teams vying for the 1st
division championship, they all will be able to survive on the "gates" they
will get once they are in!

Actually what they mean is they hope the OPPOSITION supporters will turn up to
swell the numbers and therefore justify the spectator base.

Somehow I doubt it. Look at Huddersfield, Warrington, Castleford and Salford,
together with London. If people are not going to their home games, how on earth
do they expect people to go to away games?

My own club keighley used to get "fair" gates of around 4,000 but because they
are not good enough now this has dwindled. Even if we won promotion, the Cup,
and the World club challange, it is unlikely that the Cougars crowds would rise
above 10,000 (even if the ground could cope and it can't) except against
Bradford.

These people should be realistic.

Nice to see people taking a positive attitude towards the future of the
game...
couldn't be anything to do with the fact that Keighley failed to make the
playoffs, could it? ;-)

The reason people are not going to the home games of Huddersfield,
Warrington, Castleford and Salford is down to the same reason they don't go
to Cougar Park anymore - all those teams have struggled this year
especially Huddersfield and Salford - next year however it could be
different.

In every sport there is the bandwagon factor - everyone is a supporter and
has been for years when a club is on top but only the true supporters still
go - home or away - when times are hard - it would happen to Wigan,
Bradford or Leeds to some degree if they swapped places with Huddersfield,
Warrington or Salford.
