And according to Ceefax the frogs only just scraped it with a very suspect
last minute try, the scorer clearly knocking on.

Anyone know the attendance figure, or what the international status of the
game was?

These should be promoted as like Tri Series games. Ireland, Scotland,
Wales, Yorks, Lancs and France, maybe two best play off at the end of
year, might be more successful.

Attendance was 2,233 according to today's Guardian paper.

Don't know about the status of the game as an international. France are (or
were) a full Test playing nation, and a full member of the old (and
presumably the SL version of) International Board, whereas Scotland
are...er...not.

They did play as an "emerging nation" in the '95 World Cup though, but
given that this is an experiment not to be repeated in Australia in the '98
competition (why the hell not, say I) and Wales aren't even playing at all
now, I don;t know where Scotland RL goes from here.

The RFL seem currently obsessed with having a competition called something
like "The RL Five Nations" (how original...) featuring the four home
nations and France at some point. Given their complete inability to promote
the old tri-cornered European Championship, which has died the death, I
don't hold out much hope.

So at least the standard of refereeing is up to international standard then
:-)

They are, they hosted the last meeting in Paris.

Tom O'Donovan *is* the Scots Rugby League AFAIK.

The French try definitely should not have been allowed, knock on occurred right
in front of where I was sitting. Ref was French! Attendance was 2243.
The match also got a very positive writeup in the local evening paper here in
Glasgow.

AFAIK he is. He used to do Ireland as well but I'm not so sure now, I
seem to remember someone else has been given that one.

: We can forget about much progress north of the border then...

Probably. They're certainly not very proactive about it.
