Hull's offer for GB duo is accepted
Saints stars are cleared to leave
HULL's offer for Great Britain internationals Alan Hunte
and Steve Prescott has been accepted by St Helens.
The sensational deal, believed to be worth 350,000, now
hinges on the Sharks agreeing personal terms with the players.
Second-row forward Simon Booth, who signed last week, is
also included in the package. Saints chairman Eric Ashton
confirmed his board had accepted Hull's offer. He added: "They
have until next Tuesday to sort out personal terms."
Ashton would not confirm the size of Hull's bid, but said:
"Hull have made us an offer which we consider a good one.
"It is out of our hands now and down to the players. What
we have said, however, is that we want an answer by next Tuesday.
"We are not being difficult, but if these three players are
going then it is imperative that we begin the search to replace
them." Ashton also revealed that the deal doesn't hinge on all
three agreeing. He explained: "We have agreed a package, but
if one, or two parts, fall through then we're prepared to look
at it again."
The Saints boss said he had tried to persuade 27-year-old Hunte,
the Super League's joint top try-scorer last season, to stay but
he wants a move. Having already tied up the Booth deal, Hull
are now talking to the GB duo's agents. Tommy Cunningham, who
handles Hunte's affairs, hinted last week that personal terms
offered to his client by the Sharks were attractive.
