I heard on the radio on my way home from work tonight that Phil Clarke
had announced his retirement from RL, after a neck injury earlier this
year.

Well to be quite honest I'm surprised Clarke's neck has lasted so long.

Before Clarke signed for Wigan outright he was dogged with neck injuries
in his junior years.

He regularly turned up on match days wearing a surgical collar and most
amateur coaches in the Wigan area didn't think Clarke's neck would
stand up to pro-rugby.

I guess they were right.

Sorry to hear about Phil. He was a great ambassador for the game of RL
Always spoke to you in Wigan if he saw you and you said hello to him.
A true gent and great player.  I supose he'll return to Wigan now and
help his brother run their co-owned sports injury treatment business.
Good luck Phil.

He appears an intelligent and thoughtful bloke from what I've heard of
him in interviews and TV appearences. He'd make a damned good coach I'm
sure if brought up through the ranks.
