Yep, Saints have had SUCH a bad season, they've ONLY won the Challenge
Cup.

How can we stand for this!!??

We can't let them get away with that sort of behaviour!!!!!!

Oh.....

Hang on......

That's not bad , is it?

No, but its history.  You reckon McRea was sitting back thinking "oh well
we won the cup" when Wigan thrashed you?

Do you reckon any Saints fan was thinking or saying that with any real
conviction?

Winning a bit of silver is great IF you have time to enjoy it but I guess
now the CC is mid season there is no time to enjoy the success if your
team gets tonked a few weeks later.

In the good/bad old days you could enjoy the feeling for a whole summer.

Not any more, its buisness as usual a week later.

A bit like winning the old Regal Trophy really.

To be fair John,  Wigan's players were only as professional as the rest
of the top teams at that time.  Ie out overseas imports were the real
full timers.  Most other players had jobs, busnesses or were at collage
or university.  Wigan just started paying good wages a few years sooner
that all the other clubs.  And certainly for the last 5 years all the
top SL clubs have been equally professional.

And Wigan are now comming good again with a very young side.
Look out for the next ten years.  Wigan will not dominate like they
have in the past.  But they will win a lot of cups and be there-abouts
in the league as well.

Nice to see you back John....

I will accept that the majority of opposition was, at best, semi-pro, but
mainly amateur, but NOT ALL.

Er, not quite.

Err...what did I write John?

What "behavior"?  What's all this ***about absence from the group?  You
can take that back.  I've been here all along except for holidays when the
wife gave birth.

And as to critisising other teams, what do you want me to say?  Warrington
are brill and Saints are good enough to win the WCC?

I like to think I am pretty unbiased most of the time.  If I criticise a
team other than my own I am as justified in doing so as anyone else.

When I blow my own teams trumpet I would think its obvious to all I am
just having a go as one does on this ng.

Ditto when talking about Saints, and I make no apologies for having a go
at Saints whenever I do.

This pro/am thing really is a red herring.  I can not recall anyone during
Wigans *** anyone or any media reports saying "ah but they only won
it because they were pro"

Oh, and BTW, Wigan have not been/were NOT professional for the entire
period of domination. They went pro towards the end of it and even then it
was initially more a statement of intent rather than an actuality with
some players retaining their pro/am status at the club.

As to other teams being exclusively amateur, bullocks.  They were all
semi-pro and those players who did not have outside employment (i.e. they
were unemployed) had the opportunity to train just as hard the the Wigan
players.

Wigan dominated because they were doing a better job than the rest pure
and simple, when they were semi-pro (like the rest) and when they went
full time.

How often did Wigan sell a "professional" player who maintained his
"professional" status to another club only for him to become a lesser
player?

Oi, John, who rattled your cage?

I don't expect to win everything every year anymore but at the moment
Wigan are looking a darn sight more professional (on field I hasten to
add) than any other ESL team just now.
