Bulls & Shaun Edwards - Bloody Hell

Post by David Woo » Fri, 19 Sep 1997 04:00:00

This is the LAST signing I would have expected or even thought of.

If this deal comes off who the hell am I going to hate ??

Anyway, hope it comes off & he gets his injury problems sorted out. He will
be an excellent addition to the squad, probably giving us what we missed
most this season - on field leadership, control & tactical kicking.

I'm off now to decide who to hate next :-)

That's easy, Bobbie Goulding.

As to Edwards he left Wigan with a lot of good will and a low fee in
recognition of his services to the club *because* of his desire to be down
south with his family.

In theory, if it were not for his family commitments he would still be a Wigan
player and I doubt if he had just wanted an *ordinary* transfer he would have
gone for a nominal fee.

Last I heard Bradford had not become a part of greater London so I don't
understand him moving back up north before his contract with the Broncos has
expired.

Maybe Bradford are prepared to let him commute, unlike Wigan.

Everything I've heard so far, seems to have conflated "Bradford are
interested" into "Edwards has signed". This makes me suspect the
following:

1) The hand of agents trying to get more money for client.

2) London wanting to cut their wage bill

3) London wanting to remind Edwards that he's not indispensible, and that
there are a lot of good Scrum halfs down under, some of whom are going to
be made redundant next season.

I don't know the certaion veracity or probability of truth of the story.
I'm just suspicious naturally. I've never heard of a straight story in RL.

I heard from a guy who spoke to Shaun two days ago in Wigan Shaun was
up North to see his family and to go over to Bradford and discuss
the deal.

He has split up with Heather again but still wants to see his son
as often as possible.

Bradford will get the last year or so out of Shaun as player and he
will give then the leadership and direction that they need to carry
on winning.
