Could someone please explain how the fixture list will increase to 30
games per team next season? As far as I know, we are only increasing
the league by ONE club, giving 24 league games, so where do the extra
6 come from ? More "on the road", or a world club challenge or what ??

Thanks in anticipation

AFAIK neither Super League or the RFL have worked that one out yet. What is
known is that the SL clubs want more fixtures because they think (wrongly
IMO) that it will bring in more income. They don't seem too bothered at the
corresponding decrease in quality and intensity of their product, and are
not listening to the coaches and players who are warning them what will
happen if we go back to playing twice a week.

I heard somewhere (can't remember where) that SL were proposing to create
the extra games by having Wigan/Saints, Leeds/Bradford etc playing each
other 3 times, and that with Gateshead in, plus perhaps a promoted club from
the First Division, hey presto, they would have the numbers.

As for SL on the Road, I hope it happens again, but the clubs are demanding
extra "home" fixtures, so it might be sacrificed on the altar of greed, as
per usual in RL.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to stage all these extra fixtures, if we must
have them, in Cardiff and Swansea, so that Wales effectively gets a full
season of SL on its doorstep...? They could sell season passes, gather all
kinds of useful marketing and audience profiling info into the bargain, and
really set the scene for one or two SL clubs entering the comp in their own
right in 2000. And I'd be pretty sure that the attendances would be as good,
if not better, than they would be if they were played at "home".

We'll have to wait and see what happens...

By using the "Framing the Future document"!

Oops!

Sorry if they did that there would only be teams who qualified and I cannot
imagine them playing each other 15 times home & Away NO MATTER WHAT!

No in all seriousness this is typical Rugby league at Profeesional Level. They
just cannot work out a cohesive plan and STICK TO IT. Whilst I understand and
appreciate progression, it has to be worthwhile and ALL I can see out this
exercise is more mismatches and an underlying sea of Greed.
