LAST WEMBLEY FINAL SET FOR SELL-OUT
By Ian Laybourn, PA Sport

The last Challenge Cup final to be played at Wembley before it is demolished
is heading for a 78,000 sell-out.

Leeds' return to the twin towers has sparked a ticket rush in the game's
heartland, while the first-ever appearance of London Broncos has caused
unprecedented demand in the south.

The Rhinos have already disposed of 7,500 tickets to members and
season-ticket holders, and there were queues at Headingley as tickets went
on general sale today.

The League, who reported 31,000 ticket sales before allocating 33,000 to the
finalists, took almost 1,000 telephone calls on Monday alone - a call every
20 seconds - and sold in excess of 5,000 tickets in two days.

London, who hope to sell their allocation of 15,000, reported queues when
tickets went on sale at The Stoop yesterday, with a spokesman saying: "It
was manic all day. We have had a fantastic response."

In line with ratio club attendances, Leeds have been given 18,000 tickets
but believe they can sell up to 25,000 and will seek an additional
allocation if demand reaches expectations.

The heightened interest is in marked contrast to the situation 12 months ago
when Sheffield Eagles struggled to sell their allocation and the Wembley
attendance of 60,699 was the lowest for 52 years.

The 1999 final will be the last to be staged at the present Wembley Stadium.
Although development work on the new national stadium will not now begin
until late next year, League officials are sticking to their decision to
take the 2000 Cup final to Murrayfield.

Leeds have sold more than 7000 tickets already
and they have only just gone on sale.
