Can anyone tell me when the next GB tour to Australia will take place and
what are the best and / or cheapest ways of getting over there to see the
action

I don't think a tour schedule has been announced yet. It'll have to wait
until the International Board is restructured following the SL/ARL
compromise in Aus I would guess, though I've heard the RFL are trying to
arrange a Test series in GB (v the Kiwis) in Oct/Nov '98. Maybe next year
for Oz, as 2000 is Olympic Year.

As for following a tour, I'd recommend booking your own flights/accomodation
rather than joining an organised trip. From my own experience, it's cheaper
and gives you more freedom to see what you want. For flights, QANTAS aren't
the cheapest, but the service is top notch and they'll get you there in one
piece (a tip: don't fly Garuda, however cheap they are). For accomodation,
to do things really cheaply, make some Aussie friends and utilise their
floorspace, or you could try backpacking (hard work and some of the hostels
are real sh*tholes). If you want a bit of comfort though, you can usually
find plenty of good value small hotels fairly easily if you book early
enough.

If you do get the chance to go, don't pass it up. You'll have a ball.
