have been reading in a few news articles that the organisers of the
Twickenham Seven's are keen to get Wigan to participate in this years
competition. Wigan have previously turned down the opportunity along
with Saints . This is not surprising considering this years SL fixtures
and Wigan's desire to reclaim the Championship. Also both teams would
have very little to gain from the event ( except money of course :-) )
So their reasons are quit valid.
However, IMO the one team that could benefit enormously from the
exhibition is the London Bronco's . The fact that the team is local with
local support and the publicity they would receive could be greatly
beneficial. Who wouldn't have heard of the Bronco's if they got to the
final . The London Standard might even be forced to give them a half
page article or so . Furthermore I don't think that the event would
seriously dent any other ambitions that they might have this year ,
unless they get through to the challenge cup final, and IMO although the
Cup Final would be great for launching the Bronco's the Sevens may gain
them more recognition away from the RL heartlands.
I wonder whether the bronco's and the RLE have considered the huge
marketing opportunity that exists here ?. Not just for London but for Sl
in general we all know that establishing the game in London is vital to
any expansion of the game. Although the Sevens organisers have stated
that they will not be inviting any other RL teams , with a bit of
persuasion from MO and the boys who knows ? . Well perhaps not !
