Revise my last estimate of Wigan's chances of going down the tubes.

I give em 3 months to get rid of Robinson, if they don't they're as good
as relegated.

I have just come home from upgrading Grahame West PC, and the latest news
from his own lips is that yesterday Mr. Robinson gave him an ultimatum take
Joe Lydons Ex. Job as Director of coaching or go. He refused the job and
was subsequently dismissed.
I asked him who would take over he said he wasn't sure Maybe Eric Hughes,
the new centre Wigan have signed to replace Inga is a Tongan International
but he even Mr. West doesn't know his name or has seen him play, apparently
for the last two years it has been the board of directors who have hired &
fired without consulting the coaching staff, that is why Lydon left.

More fact not gossip to follow I am seeing him again later this week...

given a list of twenty player who West & Lydon wanted at start of Super
League 1996 of that list only 1 has been signed "Holgate" , but yet the
board under the lead of the chairman have signed Sherrat, Murray, Lester,
Tatupu & the mysterious Tongan. This can't be right from speaking in the
pub tonight I think to sack West will cause up-roar in Wigan,

IMO the Wigan board are only interested in the money buy cheap players give
them a Wigan shirt & triple their price, this will go terribly wrong when
we start to loose.

With a bit of luck Mr. Robinson will go down when he appears in court in
March and the Chairmanship will be taken of him, to make sure of this I
call on all the Wigan fans who Know any true facts about his conduct &
dealings to write to the Wigan Observer and tell all, lets show this man up
for what he is, and maybe to follow we can get John Martin.

I always thought it was the board who did the hiring and firing.

It was the board who hired Botica when Monie wanted his favourite Aussie.

It was the board who let Hampson go.

Monie was quoted as saying "the baord give me the players, and I have to get on with it".

I am not defending the sacking of West.  Its stupid, not called for and his replacment, Hughes, is no better then he.

However, as I said, I have always thought it was the Wigan directors who hired and fired.

Maybe when Lindsay was there, the club had someone who could spot real talent so there was not much of a problem letting them get on with it.

West has said since the player drain began that he needed new signings to stay at the top.  If he gave the board a list, the least the board could do, IMO, is say why they were not prepared to sign who he wanted.

To give him an ultimatum to accept Lydons job in preference to Hughes is just ***y stupid.  Even if it were in favour of Monie returning I doubt the speccies would approve.

Who's noticed the similarities between the actions of the top RU and RL
clubs when they stop the winning habit !!!!

Bath lose Ashton and Hall when they know they won't win a sausage this
year - Wigan lose West presumably because of Challenge Cup defeats of 97
and 96 together with losing the Super League.

Did West carry the can for the Union experiment - given that it has now
taken to be short-sighted ?

Interesting to see McCrae against Hughes at the next local derby.
