Yeah alright, so it's the Wolves now, just doesn't scan as good.

Anyway, just heard that Lee Briers has signed for Warrington for
around 65,000. Apparently he's straight in to play on Sunday against
Saints. Should be fun for him.......

Oh no, you beat me to it Mugwump. I was going to do a post asking whether the
Wigan Walk starts before kick off time. Less than 8,000 at home. Just because
they lose a couple of matches. Pathetic. "You only sing when you're winning"
springs to mind.

One more loss and they won't have to build a new stadium, just move to the
local park.

Must be easier to please in Division One these days. Don't remember
there being that many Hull fans at the games with us last season :)

Err, excuse me. This has long been a bone of contention with me and you
could be just the person to answer this Lloyd.

What's so smegging marvellous about Headingley? People used to talk about
the place as though it had gold plated bog roll holders in the toilets.
To my eyes it's as big a dump as any of the older RL stadia with the only
real redeeming feature being the pitch.

I'll try.

It's about 10 degrees warmer than Odsal even on a hot summers day. There is
only one place you can go to be under cover at Odsal and then you have to sit
down. An electronic scoreboard while Odsal has one from the last century. You're much nearer the action at Headingley. The list goes on.

The worst thing is that it *could* be a good stadium as it is a natural bowl and if
Bradford Council would pull their finger out then maybe my opinion of Odsal would
change. It's just in my eyes and many others a not very hospitable place.

Lloyd

PS. It was a rubbish dump before it bacame a rugby ground.

Not a perfect answer Lloyd but close, well done.

Q: Why is Headingley claimed to be so good?

A: Odsal doesn't have an electronic score board.

Class.

So what if it doesn't have an electric scoreboard. It has a scoreboard
that performs it's two main functions:

1) It tells you what the score is
2) It tells you what the score is from wherever you are in the publicly
accessible areas of the ground.

I don't know if point 1 is true of the Headingley scoreboard because
I've always stood in a position where point 2 isn't.

: PS. It was a rubbish dump before it bacame a rugby ground.

...thus it's unsuitable? Since then it's been probably the most famous
Rugby League ground in the world holding the world record crowd for any
code of Rugby (102,000+) and the record crowd for a non-cup final game
(65,000+ against Huddersfield in 1953-ish). Hardly relevant to its
current status but more so than the former usage of the land.

So, anyone else know why Headingley is apparently a flagship stadium?
Clue: it's nothing to do with the quality of the hot dogs at Post Office
Road.

BTW, there are electronic scoreboards in Bradford. My favourite is the
one between City Hall and St.Georges Hall that tells you how many people
have been killed or injured at that road junction. I think it was on 64
the last time I looked at it. I've never seen anyone get hit there though
so I couldn't tell you if a little animation comes on of a car knocking
some old dear off her zimmer frame. :)

But as you ask just over 7,000. While we're on the subject of crowds as
you are the champions and have done the double what size crowds are you
getting. Is it anywhere near our average crowds when we started to take
over the sport? Just wondering y'know.

You're right of course.
If I remember rightly there were only about 6 of us at Salford last year,
and we were so quiet that no one even noticed we were there ;-)

Well - we haven't had a gate under 10,000 so far this season.

In that time we have played Hull, Warrington, Salford and Sheffield.

Estimated average gate for this season: 12/13,000.
