Meanwhile three leading Super League clubs are in danger of a points
deduction for breaching last year's salary cap. The Rugby Football League
will announce the identity of the miscreants later this week but they will
then be given the opportunity to defend themselves before their penalties
are determined.

Today's Rugby League and League Express have reported that the three
clubs are Wigan Warriors, Bradford Bulls and Saints.

However it is believed that the Saints breach is a minor
administrative error. It is thought that Saints are likely to be hit
by a small fine at the most, although the possibility of a points
deduction of at least four points for the other two clubs would appear
a distinct possibility.

The three offending clubs are likely to be named on Friday although
the clubs will be given the chance to defend their cases before any
penalties are imposed.

Allegedly!!

Gosh, now there's a surprise!  I seem to recall many people questioning
where Wigan would find room in their salary cap when they signed Fielding
from Bradford.

By the sound of things Bradford might have been glad to see the back of him
to help reduce the pressure on their's!

John.

Its just a regular occurence, don't these three break this rule every year
without any major consiquences.

How about a lesson once and for all, deduct all offenders 15 points, this
would drop them out of the top 6.  This may stop them doing it again next
season and the season after and the one after that.

Lets hope it's of a suitable penalty to finally get Mo out of the door.

The new system, which I believe is in place this year, allows for snap
audits to be made following which anyone breaking the rules would
receive an instant penalty. For example, any points deductions would
take place in the season that the illegal action took place.

This is intended to stop certain clubs (I can't name them eg Wigan or
Andy will accuse me of bias) buying their way out of an immediate
problem with the intention of suffering the penalty in the year
following, when they would have expected to have solved those problems
by signing the country's top coach, the best prop in the land and an
Aussie wizard.

RFL Operational Rules are available here to download (PDF):

Not an easy read (for me at least) but some heavy penalties possible
depending on level of breach of salary cap.

Hasn't Mo already gone to the Football side of the club and got a lucrative
contract in the FA Premiership HQ

He's simply a Director of the Latics now and also sits on the FA Council,
but they are nowhere near full time jobs.
