Super League problem solved!

Super League problem solved!

Post by Jonathan Ros » Mon, 19 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I have devised a cunning plan:
Super League should be developed and the final set-up
implemented in the next four seasons using Murdochs money.
After these four seasons we should have a viable and established SL,
hopefully with all the big city clubs Mo wants - I personally favour
Birmingham and Newcastle before Dublin and Glasgow.
The 87m will have run out, but we won't be contracted to Sky
anymore.
The next step is to sell the tv rights to Channel 4 (or maybe
even Channel 5 by then).
This gives SL terrestrial tv coverage and C4 something to show
between the Italian football season - at the moment they have cross
country running!.
There is, however, another great advantage:  How many of SL's
target audience wake up to Italian football and Transworld sport on a
Saturday morning?
Two major groups are children, especially those interested in
sport, and the young men who have been flocking to football matches
recently - the readers of Loaded magazine who have been out for ten
pints and a kebab the night before, the "new lads".
A highlights program on saturday morning would stir up great
interest for a live Saturday night match - a 5.30 or 6.00 kick off would
be great before going to the pub for the night in the summer.
Therefore, all matches should kick off on Saturday night, one of them
televised - it would beat The Shane Richie Experience as pre-pub tv.

One last point - just look at what C4 did for American Football
in the 80s.  And who didn't know what Kabadi was a couple of years ago?

You must have taped it when it was on then. It's out of season at the
moment.

Kabbadi is a game from India. You have two teams on a tennis court (no
net) and one member of the team (the raider) goes into the oppositions
side of the court and tries to touch as many of their players as possible
before making it back safely to his side. The oppositions job is to stop
the raider making it back. The raider has to hold his breath whilst
raiding and to prove he ain't breathing has to chant 'kabbadi'. Those
that were touched have to leave the court if the raider makes it back to
safely. If the raider is caught or pushed out of play before he makes
it back he has to leave the court.

It's quite fun to play, I used to with some Hindu lads at school.

: You dont have Sky, do you jonathan ?

He does have a point though. Sunday morning sport is quite popular on
Channel 4.

I'd rather Sky do it though.

Touching other players?

Raiding????

Chanting "Kabbadi" whilst holding your breath, hoping that no-one catches you?????

Hmmmmmm I think I might just give this one a miss :)

It's fun to play actually. My lungs weren't totally shagged in from
smoking in then so I could hold my breath for a fair while. t does
wonders for improving your tackling technique and evasive skills as well.
John Kear should make it compulsory for the Academey teams. <Insert
smiley shaped character at your own discretion>.

They had it on Channel 4 a few years back.  I don't suppose
you're allowed to watch C4 in St. Helens in case they call
        you a snob eh?

;-)

SJ

P.S.    I'm knocking off at lunchtime to go home and watch so they'd
        better ***y win!
