I was unaware of his wife's illness until I was appraised of her death
on saturday.

This no doubt goes some way to possibly explaining why he was ommitted
(privately asked to be.. ??) from the Lions squad, and why he did not go
to Australia to collect his ARL loyalty bonus.

I am sure rugby supporters of both codes around the world offer their
sympathy, and if there is any decency in the world, the ARL offer the
bonus to a suitable charity.

Jonathan Davies has been a colossus in both codes, as well as one of the
most gentlemanly people you could ever meet, and very very few could ever
hold anything against him. I'm sure that all of us would express our
deepest sympathy with him now.
