Bring back the "War of the Roses"

If the RFL decide to ditch the Regal Trophy maybe they could consider
bringing back a "War of the Roses" series. The Ozzie game has
benefited from their "State of Origin" game, and comment on great a
series it is, well we had it over here years a go. Seeing as how the
Geezers who sponsor the Regal Trophy (previously JPS Trophy etc)
really want to continue to sponsor RL it would be a great opportunity
for them (and us). Just a thought.

I've often thought "why not include England in the State of
Origin?"  Fits in with the concept doesn't it?  And think of
the team you could put together to represent England!

Well, I haven't thought it OFTEN.  Just now and again.  Well,
        once or twice really...

One problem:

'England' is NOT a 'State', merely a GEOGRAPHICAL territory within a state
called 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'.

English nationality does no exist as a legal entity, and some of the non-english
in these islands wonder whether it even exists in cultural terms (e.g.
John Major defined English Identity in terms of warm beer and thatched
cottages ... you don't get much of either in the north of England).

Yours,

Dave Fisher

I can't believe you ever went to one. I spent many nights (two) at Central
Park among Fans, Players
and Coaches alike who wondered why the ***y 'ell they were all there. No
atmosphere, no commitment, no anything apart from less dosh in my pocket.

Mind you, might give Murph a chance of winning something this year !!!

True, but with a bit of hype (or a lot of hype) from Sky, and bit of
money (or a lot) and some pride, you could turn it into another State
of Origin.
