How many teams go down from 1st to 2nd div?

I'm  a Widnes supporter in a state panic.

Sorry Ged, it's two. With 20 games to play it is currently

Hull KR pl 18 pts 13
Swinton pl 17 pts 12
Feathers pl 17 pts 11
Widnes pl 17 pts 10
Worky pl 17 pts 8

Its going to be close and I'd be genuinly sorry to see any of them go
down, but that's the name of the game.

Looks like Widnes v Featherstone should be a cracker!

Oh, if only I had the time to get over and shout them on... and the money
of course :-)

Unless, unless, unless... the RFL move the goal posts again, and there is
*no* relegation, combined 1st/2nd division, kick out Prescot, Donny,
Bramley, etc.

Who knows.  We've got a professional game run by amateurs, as we all know.

I think it is fair to say that with the impending demise of Featherstone's
1st division status (despite the defeat of 'sharkies' (embarrassing name?))
and the Castleford's impending departure from SL, a merger must now be
inevitably on the cards.

As one who most vehemently opposed the original merger on the basis that I
would follow Featherstone regardless of which league I had to watch, I now
find myself advocating a merger on the strength of a possible fast tracking
back to SL and the chance to watch some reasonable rugby, because
Featherstone just simply haven't been putting in the effort following some
disheartening 1 or 2 point defeats early in the season.

Is it only me that thinks the RFL will offer a fsat track for any clubs
following Maurice's dream of merging??

Hmmmm.......

It's inviting statements like 'Little sharkie poos' or something isn't
it? :^)

Definitely avoiding the Bradford v Cas' game tonight. I hate seeing them
play each other, any result but a draw is invariably a bad one and I end
up having a nervous breakdown.

: Hmmmm.......

I don't think there'll be a team from West Yorkshire fast tracked in
under any circumstance, not with both Leeds and Bradford doing well and
Halifax mid-table.

I think the opportunity to join a new SL will be there for clubs that
show vision.

I think the clubs will have to show that they will be a worthy
addition rather than the farce we had last season where everybody and
anybody was putting their claims forward to be fast-tracked.

Actually, some of the local amateur sides like West Hull, Beverley (BTW,
this is where I live folks!) and Skirlaugh would probably get better crowds
in SL than several of the teams there now.  Particularly Sheffield and
Castleford.

Because we have more money in the bank than most of them.
Because we have 60 senior and 120 junior players, good sponsors, a good
ground and a lot of supporters.
Because we had bigger crowds than Hull KR several times last season, and
most second division clubs most weeks.

mmm.....perhaps if we merged with Beverley and Hull Dockers, called
ourselves Skirlaugh Skorpians and played a number of expansion games in
Withernsea and Bridlington? ....nah.. ;-)
