So this Polanski dude has been basically hiding from the US for 31
years.  I'm not going to claim it was all hell and fear for him, but
clearly his life has been impacted for all this time by his desire to
avoid, what, a few months of jail time?  And it's been*** over
his head all this time.

On the other hand, when she was convicted Martha Stewart basically
said "*** the appeals, I'll do the nine months."  And then 9 months
later she was out, free and clear, nothing*** over her head and
as far as I can tell her career has pretty much fully recovered.  If
she had decided to keep appealing, it would probably still be going on
and*** over her.

Too bad in this comparison it was the woman who realized it's better
to just take your punishment like a man.

Uh ... I suspect if Roman had gone to jail for kiddie***, his life
wouldn't have been the same afterward.

He's a little guy.  I've heard little guys don't do well in prison,
especially kiddie rapists.  So you're probably right.

But just think of the film that he could've directed afterward if he
had gone to prison!

I seriously don't think he would have made it out of prison.

That's probably the REAL reason he fled.

As the Marcia Clark article that  you posted points out, it was the
1970's.  It was a different time and attitudes about what he did were
different.

Plus also as she points out, he probably woudl have had a relatively
easy time in prison, just charm everyone and promise to put them into
his next movie.

1) more like a few years(3+)....or about 10-12x longer than a few
months
2) staying in the US and being a "name" is much easier when you have
martha stewarts convinction than rp's........he would probably have
had to fled to france/europe anyways after he got out.....if he wanted
any kind of public life.

 ?And it's been*** over

nope, the judge who "reneged" on the plea deal that prompted polanski to
run said that he was going to sentence him to 90 days.

Except Martha Stewart was persecuted and did nothing wrong.
