Kicking game Ottawa?! Try Winnipeg, maybe, or Calgary.  Kick returns you'd
have to give to the Giz, not Pinball, but I'll admit it's close.  Without
Pringle, does Montreal still have the best running backs?

Kicking game, Calgary maybe, but Martino is weak. Ozzie had best punting
and great accuracy as KP last year. hamilton for sure if they sign him.

As for kick returns, we are talking about Jimmy the Jet Cunningham who's
average is 40% higher than the nearest competition.

With Mike Saunders among others, Montreal may have the best
running backs.  I agree that Ottawa definitely doesn't have the best
kicking game.  Saskatchewan, for one, has a better kicking game with
Matich and McCallum.  As for the best return team, I agree with Deryck
that it is the Argos as their combination of Clemons, Jimmy (the Jet)
Cunningham and perhaps Jimmy Lee is better than anyone else's.

I had forgotten about Jimmy, if he's back.  I believe he was injured near
the end of last season, so he slipped my mind.  I've never seen anyone so
fast.

I stand by my convictions that Wayne Lammle is the
best kicker in the CFL.

Gotta go....I hear the whitecoats coming.....

Has there been any word on the fate of Mr. Matt Dunnigan yet?  A local
paper quoted his manager as saying a deal would be finalized by this
weekend, but I haven't heard a peep yet -- hope this isn't bad news.

In any case, assuming the Cats don't manage to sign him, and end up as
the only Eastern division team without a big-name QB, has anyone got any
comments regarding the remaining possibilities.  Will Calveo (sp?) be
allowed to develop his game this year, or is there someone else who's
fallen by the wayside who might give the Cats a chance at a decent
offense.  Perhaps a little early for speculation given the
Dunnigan situation, but I'd like to hear your comments.

Calvillo and Kerrigan are the only QBs on the roster. If Dunnigan signs
with BC, as is likely, there really isn't anyone else worth signing.
Allen, Bell and Austin are all available but they are really no better
than Calvillo. The Cats would be best to look at signing on a promising
rookie to develop and go with Calvillo, who has one of the strongest arms
in the CFL. And this year he will have some very fast receivers to throw
to in Marcus Grant and Jason Phillips. If Earl Winfield is re-signed, and
that doen't look good unfortunately, the Cats will have an outstanding
receiving corps, especially with Marc Cody and Phillips at SB. If Earl's
not back, then Cody will be the other WR with probably Barry Rose at SB.

If Calvillo can cut down on the interceptions, he could be the best QB in
Hamilton since Dieter Brock was here.

The one question I have is:

Will there be 3 QBs on CFL teams this year or will most teams opt for
just two? Will a team give up a spot for a 3rd QB when you only have 36
players? Can the 3rd QB be the Designated Import and if so, will this
mean any QB replaced by the DI be out for the rest of the game? Anyone
have any ideas or thoughts on this?

Yeah, I've been watching that pretty closely myself.  It seems that
the Cats have put all their eggs in the Dunnigan basket.  Maybe we can
flat out reverse the trade that brought Taylor here.  What player did
you guys grab with our dispersal draft pick??  :-)

I'd pay $50 to see Sutherin get Allen back again!  BAHAHAHAHAHA!
The tabbies are gonna be coughing up hairballs all season!  :-) :-) :-)

: Yeah, I've been watching that pretty closely myself.  It seems that
: the Cats have put all their eggs in the Dunnigan basket.

I think Calvillo is a capable starter.  The difficulties he experienced
last year were due, in large part, to Brock's offensive scheme.  Lots
of slow-developing pass plays and a disproportionately small number of
running plays.  That kind of offence leads to sacks, hurries and
interceptions.  Unfortunately, rather than giving Hall the ball more
often, they decided to downgrade their running game substantially with
the acquisition of Stewart.  Calgary, for the first time in years, may
have one of the best groups of runningbacks in the CFL.  I'd take Hall
and Mills in the same backfield over Stewart and Daniels any day of the
week.  Throw Edwards into the mix and they have 3 credible threats on
the ground.  I think Wally Buono is finally learning that the passing
game is great in the regular season, but a solid ground game is what
gets you through November.

But I digress.  A lot of people suggest the receivers in Hamilton are
one of the big attractions for Dunigan.  If I were a QB, I would care
less about the receivers than about the runningback.  And comparing
Philpot to Stewart is no comparison at all.

Hamilton can win with Calvillo.  But in order to do so, I think they
should keep up the search for another RB.

Thanks to the Taylor trade we picked up SB/WR Jason Phillips. Thanks folks!

Wait until June 28th! It should be fun passing against a non-existent
secondary :->
