Sportsline dilemma: Williams & Williams

Post by Tere » Sat, 09 Nov 2002 01:40:44

Hi!
I'm signed up in one of the free CBS Sportsline's fantasy leagues. I
have a problem, and of course Sportsline isn't helping. I got one of
their auto responses to my e-mail.

Here's my dilemma: I have Ricky Williams, Miami, on my team. Last
weekend I also picked up the "other" Ricky Williams, the running back
from Indianapolis. I never got to play him because he pulled a
hamstring. Now I would like to drop the Indy Ricky. However, when I go
to the Add/Drop screen, do you think they would distinguish between
the two Rickys? NO! I have a choice of dropping:

Ricky Williams (RB)
or
Ricky Williams (RB)

I have a 50-50 shot of losing Miami Ricky. Perhaps I am stuck with
both Rickys for the entire season, because I don't see any other place
on the site to add/drop players, particularly where they might give a
little more insight into who the player is. Surely there are a few
other owners with a similar problem (maybe paying customers will get
more assistance).

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Teresa

Seeing as the players are listed in alphabetical order, I would imagine that
the teams would be also.
Using that theory, I would drop the first Ricky Williams.  Remember, this is
just a theory.

I haven't used Sportsline's leagues, but maybe this will work...  Can you
mouse-over the names or maybe look at the document source to determine
whether there's an ID# or some other unique identifier associated with each
Ricky?  Then see if you can determine which # corresponds to which Ricky
through some other interface with the database, like from a roster page or
something.  Just a thought.

I would guess that the list box isn't grabbing the team information at all;
just player name, position, and player ID.  In which case I would imagine
the sorting would be by ID after name and that Ricky Williams from Indy
would have been entered in the database after Ricky from Miami.  I would
choose the second Ricky.

How about emailing the commish of the league or actually sending out a
leaguewide email telling THEM of the situation.  I'm sure if the wrong one was
then dropped, they would have no problem letting you correct it.

Try picking up a free agent that you have to wait a day or two to clear
waivers. Drop a Ricky and then go to view your waiver que list and see if it
is the right one. Make sure the player you are picking up has a day or two
before clearing waivers or the move will be made immediately.

I gave it a try and you are right.  The funny thing about it is if you look
in the add player column it list player, position, and team.  I think the
waiver plan is your best bet.  I would think the people in your league would
understand, but you would be surprised at some of the buttheads out there.
In my fantasy baseball league, my team and another were playing for the
championship.  Another team who's season was over decided to drop his whole
team.  Barry bonds and the rest of the crew...

THANK YOU, JIM! I took your advice, and it worked. The first Ricky
Williams (at least on my list), turned out to be Miami Ricky. When it
gets in the que, you still have to click on the name to see exactly
who it is. I was able to delete the action so that I wouldn't lose
Miami Ricky. The second one on my list is Indy Ricky. I hope to be rid
of him by tomorrow. :)

I, too, am playing in a public league, and I don't think advertising
my problem to them would be to my advantage. I'm not among friends
there. :)

Thanks to everyone for the advice, and I hope anyone else with this
dilemma can get it straightened out, too.

One other idea may be to go to 'evaluate trade', the players are in the same
order in that list, and it will be obvious who is who by the
statistics...this is for CBS site anyway....

Thanks!  I did the same and it worked...seems like Ricky Williams (Indy) is
the second on list....statistical thing/ranking I would imagine....

Thanks
