Eagles sign Art Monk

It's official.  Yesterday, the Eagles announced that they signed veteran wide
receiver, Art Monk.  Monk, 37, vowed to return to the NFL after being released
by the New York Jets.  Monk supposedly is in top condition after a stiff
workout regiment for the last 13 weeks.  Monk will receive $50,000 per game
and be listed as the 4th receiver.  Ray Rhodes makes the move to replace the
injured Kelvin Martin.

Could Rhodes be loading up on veteran Super Bowl pros to bring a winning
attitude into the lockerrroom just in time for the playoffs?  Eagles are 8-4
with games remaining with Seattle, Dallas, Phoenix, and Chicago.

Go Eagles!

Is Ronnie Lott still playing?  I heard he signed with the Chiefs but
got injured and had to be put on I.R. and haven't heard about him since.

I don't know the exact details, but he is on I.R. and doing business
stuff around the Bay Area.  The last I'd heard a month ago, he
wanted to play this one last year and retire with Marcus Allen, but
has to heal up first.  This was all in a radio interview.  One
interesting thing he said was that he didn't think he'd go into
coaching.  Around the Bay Area it has always been said in the press
that Lott expected to coach after he retired, and that he'd be a
good one.

What I heard was that he cannot go back to the Chiefs this year,
but he could be put on waivers and signed by another team.
This led to some rumors that the '9ers would try to sign him
but this is almost certain not to happen.  As for Lott
coaching, I'm not sure how good he would be.  No
questioning his intelligence or knowledge of the game,
but he might not be patient with players not willing to give
as much as he gave as a player - meaning just about
everybody.

Yep.  He's ineligible to play for this season.

I heard a while back that Ronnie may become secondary coach for the
Eagles. Eagles' head coach Ray Rhodes was the 49er's secondary coach when
Lott played for SF. That's the connection.
