This game is more important for the Chargers to work in key players.
In last Friday night-?s 26-20 loss to Seattle, running back LaDainian
Tomlinson and quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Doug Flutie made their 2004
debuts for the Chargers. Tomlinson started the game and carried twice for
eight yards and caught a pass for 12 yards. Rivers came into the game in
the second quarter and completed his first pass for 38 yards to Joshua
Norman.

This is a ton of points especially considering the Niners don-?t
have much either. The Niners have done nothing this preseason and
will be facing a team every bit as hungry for a win, no less talented
and getting points. While the team's starting unit is mostly settled,
49ers coach Dennis Erickson said Wednesday that several backup positions
are still up in the air, and tonight's game against San Diego would
determine the last few spots on the 53-man roster.
