Why did it take until we had an Obama justice department to get him
pinched?   Hmmm, chew on that law-n-order 'wingers.   Why didn't he
stick up what his Hollywood friends want?

I really don't know if that had anything to do with it or not so it
may be a thoroughly spurious thought, but that thought occurred to me
as I read this article this morning:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ghr0TYlynjXmIfCmHQ_...

a/k/a

I.e., the Swiss are upset because they feel their country is rolling
over to the United States far too much lately (yes I know the tax
stuff was initiated by the Bush admin).

Oh, so now you Lefties are trying to get a child rapist off the hook
by blaming Bush.   Have you no shame?

This notion of a quaint, neutral Switzerland is just pathetic.  Like
this quote:

"The famously independent Swiss have fought off foreign invaders for
centuries, and still credit their neutrality for escaping invasion
from neighboring Nazi Germany during World War II."

No...you escaped invasion from Nazi Germany because you allowed them
to use your country to launder and store the assets they stole from
European Jews.

1) The justice department doesn't necessarily care who the president
is on matters like this.

2) Polanski made it public when and where he was going to Switzerland.

I*'m assuming you aren't serious in that statement, because if you are
you have seriously misread my post.

First, did Polanski routinely visit countries in the past with whom we
had appropriate extradition agreements?

Second, don't be too quick to spin this.  After all, another "artist"
was pardoned by another liberal president in the past after *his*
dalliances with a minor, so (if I were you) I'd at least wait until I
was reasonably sure that Obama isn't planning to follow along in
Jimmah's footsteps here.

And oh by the way Switzerland is not tidy and clean either.  Of all
the cities I visited on my business trip tour of Europe last year,
Zurich was the filthiest.  Even more so than Paris, which stereotypes
would have pegged as the dirtiest.

One person's "famously independent" is another's "famously
self-serving," I guess.

I think so, but no one was particularly looking for him.  IIRC,
in this case the US was like, "Hey, he's coming on such and such
a date, can you pick him up?"

<...fart....>

We all "roll over."  We just did it for Russia and we are going to do
it for Iran.

Yeah, neutrality sure helped Denmark...and Norway...and the
Netherlands...and.....

The occasional neutral nation is useful....even to psychotic
megalomaniacs.

That makes sense, but I find it hard to believe that he could be in one
of those countries for more than a few hours without word getting out to
the authorities, at which point I find it hard to believe that it would
have been that hard to arrest the guy.  So on this point, I have to side
a bit with those who are questioning why this didn't happen before now.

That, plus a neutral here and there is useful for both sides. I'm
sure Germany could've conquered Switzerland, but the return wasn't
seen as cost effective.
