Mcdonalds sells mostly unhealthy food with decent flavor.  Subway
sells mostly healthy(er) food with almost no flavor.  Subway's
advantages includes much lower startup costs and ability to establish
restaurants in much smaller neighborhoods/closer together.  Mcdonald's
advantages include the draw from children who generally hate Subway
food and the plethora of unhealthy americans.  A few years ago I would
have said name recognition as well, but not so much anymore.

Not for Nuthin', but Subway sucks. Taste the ham. Taste the Turkey. Taste the "Roast" Beef. Tell me the difference. It's all "Loaf". I let my son eat there because it's filling and he loads up on vegetables and odd smelling bread. I'd rather linger in a bathroom I just took a wicked dump in than walk in a Subway. What the *** is that SMELL?

If that funk is from the bread, I don't want that bread. No worries. I don't hate on people over subway. My son loves it. It's just not for me.

the sandwich shop that I think is vastly overated is Quiznos.  I think
thier sandwichs skimp on the meat way too much, and they just don't
taste that great.

Now I get WAAYYY more meat on a regular Quiznos than on a regular
subway....two to three times the meat.  I will admit that Quiznos is
store specific for quality.  Been to some real stinkers...fortunate to
have the local one be pretty good, just expensive.

Give me Jimmy John's any day over Quiznos or Subway.  But thats an
hour drive for me, so its more of a treat.

They must have improved then....they popped up in the late 90's around
here, and since have completely shut down (dozens of locations in
Iowa) since because of their poor quality.

might be another case of store-specific.  One near us is decent.

It wasn't then...they were all horrible.  But they had them tucked in
lots of gas stations around here, so their QC might not have been very
good.  They may well have revamped their lineup since then as well.

I agree on Quizno's. Seems like it should be good but mine always disappoints. At least Subway is what it's always been.

Wow, opinions are so divergent.  Or maybe franchises are so
divergent.  Jimmy John's IME is the absolute bottom of the barrel. My
impression is they prioritize speed over everything else.  Their
sandwiches are the plainest, least flavorful foods I've ever eaten.
Subway is much better, and I'm not saying Subway is very good.

one thing with Subway is I take every single fixin' so I have a lot of
flavors going on.   Then I have them hit it with a little mustard and
salt and pepper.  So I have a very flavorful sandwich by design.
