In our league, they are one and the same so it makes no difference, but the
stat download from ***sports lists the TD as Special Teams.  I would tend to
agree.  Carolina was, after all, lined up to kick, did kick, and had it returned.

Had Dempsey's 63-yarder been short, it also could have been returned.
Indeed, I remember a Packer safety going up under the goalpost and blocking
a FGA during the Lombardi era, and the announcers mentioning it  could have
been returned (turned out a touchback because it dribbled across the goal
line---upon which the posts stood, in those days).

Can't see whyWilliams' return would be different simply because twas blocked
behind the line of scrimmage.

Scoring On A. Williams TD

Some leagues' commissioners are using box scores for determining results
of the week.  Even though our commish watches all the games like the rest
of us, i t is only fair for him to score the games as the paper prints
them.  It doesn't seem logical but it is only fair way to do it.

: Aneas Williams scored on a blocked field goal Sunday.  Should that be scored on
: a special Teams level or a Defensive Touchdown level.  I am looking for input
: for my Commish.

: Thanks

I am a commissioner myself so this is how I scored it: Since the field
goal unit is comprised of special teams players then I scored it as a
special teams score for a blocked fg returned for a td. In my league we
combine the defense and special teams so it really didn't matter, but in
leagues that split the two up it should be credited to the special teams
and not the defense IMHO.
