ESPN has learned that the federal probe of *** at Northwestern
University will now extend to the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Brian Ballarini, the former Northwestern football player who was
indicted for allegedly running a *** ring on the school's
Evanston, Ill., campus in 1994 and 1995, was allegedly found to have
participated in a *** operation on the Colorado campus, where he
allegedly took bets on college and pro games from football players and
Ballarini, who transferred to Colorado in 1995, is due in federal
court on Friday morning in Chicago for a status hearing on the case.
Colorado officials could not be reached for comment.
In April, Ballarini pleaded innnocent to charges of running a
bookmaking operation on Northwestern's campus.
