My QB Decision - still undecided - One last question

Post by JRitrova » Sat, 04 Sep 1999 04:00:00

It has come down to this......

QB's - Brister - George - McNown
WR's - Chrebet - L. Shepard - M. Harrison - Darnay Scott - Az Hakim - Michael
Westbrook
RB's - Taylor - Staley - Emmitt - Warrick Dunn
TE's - Fuaria
K's - Mare, Gramatica

I am either going to trade Wayne Chrebet for Kordell Stewart or drop Cade
McNown and Acquire Brian Griese from the FA pool.  I appreciate all the input
given on this dilemna and these are the 2 conclusions I have come up with.

I have almost the same QB's, although I have McNair as #1.  I dropped McNown and
picked up Griese.  I wouldn't trade for Stewart.  You just don't know which
Kordell will show up this year.  There are questions regarding Griese but he does
have the better supporting cast.

Being limited to those 2 choices, I'd pick up Griese..... I don't expect him
to be spectacular, but he should be steady.... Stewart on the other hand is
the proverbial "unguided missile" he'll either be spectacular or a bust.
With the team you've put together, it doesn't appear that you need to take
the risk. A steady QB should be enough... One other point, by trading
Chrebet you help another owner that will be your opponent!

Pick up Griese. At least you'll have the QB situation on team with a
very good offense covered. The problem remains that they might start
splitting games though. Say Denver starts Griese but he starts slow and
Brister comes in. Ouch.

My next choice might be looking to see if Dunn or Staley might fetch a
QB. I like your RB depth much better then your WR depth.

Who cares about helping an opponent? Help yourself and your team first. That's
your main prioity. If you make a trade that helps your team, didn't you
accomplish what you wanted? Besides if you didn't help your opponent (in his
mind anyways), then why would the other side even want to trade with you?

You're not going to need 7 wrs. You can dump Az and use that to pick up Griese.
Most likely Brister's value is at his lowest so he can be FA fodder if you like,
probably dump him when you need another te or if you can get yourself a good rb
off the waivers. You're better off with Chrebet than without, besides you can get
more than Kordell for Chrebet anyways.

Hey Tony..... I thought the idea was to win.... not necessarily to be a nice
guy!

If you'll notice.... I suggested not trading at all!

Sheesh....

Maybe he did.

Then again, maybe some of the newsgroup readers feel that his two options are
all that great, and suggesting potentially better ones.

How rude, inconsiderate, and "numbnut"-ish of them. :-)
