This is primarily for those that think the Carlton Social Club action is
going to be good for footy.  If we split the comp.  we are going to leave
some good history in the gutter.

extract from a letter just posted by Matt Barker from the Save the Bears
(NRL).  There was an AGM last night and it was decided there is NO more
saving:

These bastards have taken from me and from so many others something which
can't be replaced. It feels like my best friend has been ***ed. For those
of you who don't follow footy, or some others of you whose clubs are still
in the competition, you have no idea what it feels like to have something
that you have worshipped your whole life taken from you forever.
-----

Paints a pretty horrible picture, hope it never happens to our Victorian
clubs (at least the Roys merged and Sydney & North can play Harbourside).

It still sounds like some of the sentiments the people who fought to
"Keep South at South" expressed.

Sounds like it was written by someone who:

a) Never had a best friend to be ***ed, or

b) is a complete idiot.

The phrase "Get a Life" springs to mind here...

have a good one,

Mic,  I am as close as you.  Just have a vague interest in the rugby all of
a sudden - something to do with the way our great game is being screwed
with.  Agree,  this guy needs to find another pursuit but still the point
is:

Media plays club & competition off against each other (Broncos etc & ARL)
creates a second comp and in the end once economics prevails some
traditional clubs die.  Which clubs are going to have to go if we
rationalise with these soughts of wars / would the mighty tigers survive?

As a Sydney-sider, I see more about the ARL/Super League fiasco than
you guys down south. Although rugby league is now a "unified"
competition, I'm of the opinion it's dead in the water. One foundation
club (South Sydney) has been dumped from the comp; 6 clubs (all loyal
to ARL be it noted!) have been forced to merge in order to survive.
Only one of those clubs (Illawarra) was from outside Sydney; the
others were: Western Suburbs, Balmain, North Sydney (all foundation
clubs), St George & Manly (not foundations, but have been in the
Sydney comp for over 50 years).
I have many friends who used to follow these clubs, but who now have
either switched to follow our great game, or rugby union instead. If
this fight between Elliott & the AFL splits our game, then it will go
the same way.
I understand how the Norths guy feels. If the club I've supported for
over 40 years were to fold or have to merge, it would leave a huge
hole in my life. I do have a life and I would survive, but I doubt I
would bother with footy any more.
Just when our footy looks like becoming the *** national footy
game in all states, let's hope we don't go down the same road or a
similar one to rugby league.
