Masters/pools in Wash DC area?

Post by Jeff Dalt » Thu, 04 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I'm traveling next week in the Washington DC area (Georgetown Univ.,
Bell Atlantic) and I'd like to know if any of the following are in
the area (in priority order):

1. Masters workouts available for drop-ins,
2. Lap swimming in a good pool (+4ft deep, well maintained, 25yd-50m?),
3. Lap swimming in any clean pool (health club, hotel, etc.).

Where are you exactly staying while in D.C.?  I don't know anything about
Mater's workouts (other than they do exist) but there are several (many)
very nice pool facilities in the Va. and Md. suburbs.  Sorry, don't know
about within D.C. other than they are not the same quality for the public
facilities as the suburbs have.  If you're in the 'burbs, tell me where
and I can at least give you names of the local county places (all are very
well kept).

Masters/pools in Wash DC area?

Wilson High School Pool is one block off Wisconsin Ave. at Tenleytown
metro stop.  It isn't super clean, and water temp varies (too warm more
likely than too cool) but it's 8 lane, 25 yard and free.  Hours can be
erratic, call them at 202-282-2216.  Our masters team works out there 6-8
pm T, Th.  We don't have a real policy with visitors, but 7-8 is usually
not to crowded and it shouldn't be a problem.  General public has 1/2
pool, we have other 1/2.   Count on 6/lane for our team.

Unfortunately with this snow we've had, I doubt that they'll be open til
later in the week.
