Q: Performance Points Calculation Around The World

Q: Performance Points Calculation Around The World

I'd like to know how swimming performances get "rated" around the world.
Are there different ways of comparing performances in, say, Europe and
Australia ? Or are there a worldwide method of giving points for a
performance ?

I'm from Denmark and we use a table (directly translated it's called
"German Table of Points") where the calculation is a function that looks
something like this:

 |  .
 |   .
 |    .
 |     .
 |       .
 |          .
 |                .
 |                         .
 |                                        .
 |                                                        .
 +--------------------------------------------------------- points

Each event has its own table and the world record is defined to be 1000
pts. So, given todays world records, if you swim 0:50.00 in 100 free you'd
get something like 885 pts which is equivalent with a 2:02.90 in 200 IM.

Does anyone have a clue of what I mean ?

Responses will be appreciated. Thanks.
