I compete in section 3 of New York State and am on a class B high school
team. I think the way the meet is set up is totally unfair to B schools.
The B championships are on the first day of the meet and I won the 50
free with a time of 21.95 which is good enough to make the state meet
qualifying cut. Unfortunately I didn't qualify for states because I got
this time during my finals instead of the A finals. I was seated first
going into the A finals the next day but I didn't swim as well and got a
22.63 and 8th place. The winning time was a 22.04. I had the fastest
time of the entire meet, but did not make states.
I think that B schools deserve the same opportunities as the A schools.
Our championship meet should be the same as theirs. We don't get
recognized on the blocks for winning in our meet-they don't even play the
national anthem for our meet.
I feel that this meet is unfair. I think that I deserve a chance to swim
at the state meet. I made the bonus time, broke the section 3 B record
and had the fastest time of the meet. Too bad I did it during my
championship meet and not the other schools'.
