Gold Discoloration and Pool Water: Remedies?

Post by Marianne Eag » Sat, 24 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I like to wear a pair of gold earings, without removing them, but I
have noticed that they are getting a greenish-black tint to them. No doubt
this is the result of the chlorine and whatever other things are in the
water. Aside from taking them off before swimming, does anyone know of any
way to remove this discoloration, or is it permanent?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Marianne,
I suspect your earrings are*not* gold. If they were, they would not
turn green. It's probably too late to save them. Whatever they are
coated with is wearing off and the metal beneath it is doing its thing.
If you stop wearing them in the pool or shower and you may still be
able to get some miles out of them.
