Of interest to people involved in YMCA and USS age group
swimming:

Larry Lyons, coach of the Anderson Barracudas / M. E. Lyons YMCA
swim team has passed away.  Lyons, 60, died in his sleep of a
heart attack Wednesday morning.

Larry coached swimming in the Cincinnati area for 29 years.  In
1988 he took over the M.E. Lyons YMCA swim team.  Under his
leadership M. E. Lyons has won 4 national YMCA championships.
Larry was twice awarded YMCA coach of the year honors, including
this year.  He has coached many national caliber swimmers, most
recently Rachel Gustin and Talor Bendel now at the University of
Michigan and Dod Wales who will be attending Stanford next year.
Roughly 80 percent of Lyon's recent proteges have landed college
scholarships.

Larry Lyon's death is a great loss to the swimming community of
southwest Ohio.  "He definitely loved the kids," said Cincinnati
Marlins coach Ken Stopkotte.  "He cared about every kid he
coached.  He never screamed or yelled; he motivated by love and
kindness."
