Gary Hall split 47.4 in the 400 freestyle relay. Considering how much
pressure was on him in that relay (U.S. was behind both Russia and
Germany) and how he is such a good pressure swimmer, this split was very
reasonable for Hall...

For information:

Gary Hall's split was 47.45, an outstanding performance, with 2 other
47 sec splits, Popov on 47.88 & Borges on 47.99, but was it better than
Dennis Pankratov's 51.55 fly split for Russia in the medley relay.
(assume a 0.50 sec addition & new world record is now 52.27 secs!)

Other splits of real note:
Anders Holmertz 1:57.03 200m Free Relay for Sweden
Amy van***n  53.91 secs 4 x 100m free relay for USA
Kristina Egerszegi leading off 100 Back in prelims of 4 x 100m Medley
in 01.01.05 secs, a time that would have taken gold over Botsford in
the individual 100m Back
Jenny Thompson's 100m Fly in prelims of Medley relay of 58.53 secs. It
is worth noting that Angel Martino "only" went 58.70 in the final... in
which Thompson could not get a swim!

It was 47.4
Hardly surprising considering his freshman year anchor leg for Texas at
NCAAs

What I'm wondering is what was Pankratov's fly split on the medley.
Marc Henderson went 52 low, and Pankratov caught up at least a body
length, it had to be fast.

Just looking at the results of the 400 medley for fly splits:

Denis Pankratov:  51.55
Mark Henderson:   52.39

Well, he didn't go 46.xx, that would have been unholy!  He did swim
the fastest relay leg in human history with a 47.4 though.  As far as
I know, the second fastest was Popov in the 1992 Olympics with a 47.6.
