What to do if I am unable to find a pool?

Post by Ken Akerma » Wed, 05 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I live in Fort Collins, CO and I swim regularly swim with a Masters swim
team here.  Beginning next week, I will be moving to Idaho to do six
weeks of field engineering work.  I will be traveling around the state,
working almost every day, and living out of inexpensive motels, so I will
not be near an adequate pool during the next six weeks.

Therefore, it appears that it will be very difficult for me to do any
swimming over the next six weeks.  How can I stay in shape under such
conditions?  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Ken,
even though your motels won't have pools (most hotel pools are shitty for
workouts anyway) alot of towns have ymca's and ywca's. Alot of these
places not only have pools but will let someone from out of town use the
facilities for just a small charge. Everytime you get to a town, get out
the phone book and look up the Y's, they usually stay open pretty late.
Good luck! RZ

Ken,

I also travel frequently.  I usually call the city park & rec. department
and ask if there is a public pool with lap swim hours.  I've found some
great pools and masters groups this way.

Good Luck.

        Ken --

What makes you say that you will not be near adequate pools?
        (I don't know what's in Idaho -- maybe you're right.)  Is there
a YMCA in Ft. Collins?  If so, check with the front desk.  Most
Y's have a book of all the other Y's nationwide.  See what's
in Idaho (and where) before you leave home.  You may be surprised
        at what's available to you.
