Infant Aquatics - opinions sought

Post by ICEAci » Wed, 13 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hi!!  My name is Sharyn and I have been specializing in Infant and Pre
school Aquatics - ie teaching swimming to under 5's.  All my training and
expereince suggests a mixture of water realted games/songs/activities mixed
with basic skill practices (kicking, paddling, breathing, floating, entries
and exits).  Where I am working now, they say I use too many songs and too
many toys and other children are distracted by my classes!!!  Any opinions
or simialr problems????  I believe in what I am doing...

Infant Aquatics - opinions sought

I too have been teaching preschool aquatics for about 7 years.  Tell whoever
"they" are to blow it out their ear!  People often say that kids don't
"work", of course they do, play is their work!  They leard and discover
everything through play.  I can gaurantee you that if you ask a semi timid
child to put their face in the water they won't, but if it is a part of a
game they will do it in an instant.  In Canada the Red Cross encourages the
use of play, activities, imagery, etc throughout all of the class.
I would love to talk or chat further about this, please feel free to e-mail
me anytime.

Good Luck
