  1986, when the UK had an even colder than usual summer.  The water was

  This is an excellent swim. At altitude (~6000' I believe), and cold
  (approximately 60-65F) but the lake is surrounded by mountains, and the
  swim is right down the lake from one end to the other -- no buoys, no turns,
  no limits on what course to take (it's a long, narrow lake).
  Field is usually ~600.
